What is iPhone 4 Retina Display?

via digitalrendezvous.netSince the launched on iPhone 4 in the market, I have been curious about what they mention about Retina Display. Most of the games I have downloaded also mention that it supports Retina Display. I haven’t got time to do a full research until now. In summary, it is an LCD that display high density of pixels on the screen. Compare to previous iPhone 3GS model with 163ppi screen only, iPhone 4 has four times the number of pixels.

It is simply mean that all the icons and graphics are much more clearly than previous model. It looks more smooth, clear and crisp. Check out the flickr Retina Display comparison photos posted by PCWorld member AndrewLudewig.

Honestly, I really can’t differentiate and see any juggles in my iPhone 3GS apps icon. When I try to take a screenshot of my home screen and zoom in to see clearly, it does show some juggles but really hard to distinguish the difference.

In terms of hardware processing power, Retina Display requires higher hardware processor to perform the super high density graphics. That is why iPhone 4 comes with more powerful processor and battery improvement. The content display will remain the same physical dimension but pixels per pinch will be higher which makes the photos and text more crisp.

Some experiences photos taken by other blogger mark the difference on Safari browser. The text on iPhone 4 is clearly and smooth without need to zoom in to view. This is very true. Most of the time when I surf website using Safari, the text is not very clear and need to zoom in to read clearly. Photos on iPhone 4 also have more contrast and color pixels.

Too bad I still don’t have chance to hold the iPhone 4 on my hands. I am still waiting for iPhone 4 to be arrive in Malaysia.

It makes the screen look sharper which mean that all the images will be clearer than previous model iPhone 3GS. Basically, the images look crisp because there are more pixels on the screen. That is Retina Display technology :)
