Adding new brushes to GIMP is very easy and simple. No installation process is required to add new brushes. The GIMP custom brushes need to put into the specific folder.

To add new brushes, follow these instructions.

1. Download the GIMP brushes from the website. Unzip it. Usually the brushes are put inside a folder and each of it has extension .gbr (is used for ordinary and color brushes)
2. Select and copy paste all the brushes into C:\Document and Settings\<username>\.gimp-2.6\brushes\ in Window XP or C:\Users\<username>\.gimp-2.6\brushes\ in Vista or Windows 7.
3. Quit or Close GIMP if it is opened. Open GIMP again and the brushes will be available when you select the Brush icon.

GIMP is a open source image manipulation tool and freeware program to edit images and creating simple graphics. It has good set of features to help user to design graphics. However, Gimp cannot be compare with complex photo editing like Adobe Photoshop because one is open source and another one is commercial product.

However, I find it difficult to use the feature of drawing in GIMP especially who window user like me. It will take some time to master the drawing skill in GIMP. Once you get used to the software, you can create high quality graphics using GIMP.
